Q: What does "Jingu" mean?
A: "Jingu" refers to "Shinto shrine".



Q: What is a Kamidana?
A: A Kamidana is a kind of house altar. It usually consists of a shelf onto which a wooden structure in the shape of a small shrine building is placed. Ofuda are placed inside it, or outside onto the shelf , mostly for one year, then they are renewed. On the right and left, branches of Sakaki are kept in vases. Offerings (food, drink etc.) are placed in front .



Q: At what ages are small children brought to a shrine?
A: Newborn babies are brought to a shrine (usually at the age of about 1 month). Also, girls are brought at 3 and 7 years of age, boys at the age of 5.
