The year 2014 marks the 100th anniversary of the passing of Empress Shoken, the consort of Emperor Meiji and an enshrined deity of Meiji Jingu.
At Meiji Jingu, various commemorative events will take place to pay respect to the outstanding virtue of Empress Shoken.

Photographs and pictures on panels along the main approach near the main shrine buildings show the life of the Empress, and information on the process of Meiji Jingufs foundation.
We take delight in introducing through this presentation the life of Empress Shoken whose influence extended both inside and outside Japan by, among other things, her involvement in the establishment of the international cooperative fund of the Red Cross which has aided many parts of the world for the past one hundred years.
